SDCC 2025 RECAP: THE LONG WALK

Stephen King’s The Long Walk — starring David Jonsson, Tut Nyuot, Garrett Wareing, and Mark Hamill — shook Hall H at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con International. Producer Roy Lee and screenwriter JT Mollner joined the cast for an electrifying SDCC panel moderated by Eric Vespe and Anthony Breznican, hosts of the Stephen King podcast The Kingcast.

To start the panel, the crowd was greeted with a pre-recorded message from author Stephen King himself introducing the debut of the film’s new trailer. King’s message may have been a special treat for attendees only, but you can watch the trailer right now:

Following the in-room trailer debut, the moderators introduced the cast on stage with Mark Hamill opening his jacket to the crowd to show off his “Based on the novel by Richard Bachman” shirt, paying homage to the infamous pseudonym Stephen King used to write The Long Walk, which was his first written novel.

The panelists discussed their experiences from meeting Stephen King, preserving the shock of Mark Hamill’s chilling performance as The Major, the grueling challenges of walking dozens of miles a day, and the camaraderie developed amongst the cast through this once-in-a-lifetime moviemaking experience.

To close out the lively panel, a special message from director Francis Lawrence and star Ben Wang played in the room to introduce an exclusive sneak preview of the first 22 minutes of the film – though the initial moment was interrupted with a disclaimer that parts of the footage would be blacked out after being deemed too intense for Hall H – before rolling in front of enraptured fans.

From the highly anticipated adaptation of master storyteller Stephen King’s first-written novel, and Francis Lawrence, the visionary director of The Hunger Games franchise films (Catching Fire, Mockingjay , and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), comes THE LONG WALK, an intense, chilling, and emotional thriller that challenges audiences to confront a haunting question: how far could you go?
