The biggest, and we sort of mean that literally, movie of the year is almost here! GODZILLA MINUS ONE hits US theaters on Friday, December 1st nationwide with Early Access Fan Event Screenings on Wednesday, November 29th in participating premium large format theaters. If any movie demands to be seen on a big screen, it’s this one!
GODZILLA MINUS ONE, written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, sees an already devastated post-war Japan facing a new threat in the form of Godzilla.
The film stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Sasaki, with music by Naoki Sato.
ABOUT THE FILM
The film takes place just after the war, when Japan has no self-defense force or no armaments. The starting point is what happens if Godzilla comes to Japan while it is completely disarmed.
GODZILLA MINUS ONE is written and directed by award winning director Takashi Yamazaki and produced by TOHO Studios.
The film stars Japanese superstars Ryunosuke Kamiki as Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko Oishi. Mr. Kamiki and Ms. Hamabe also currently star together in the hit Japanese television series “Ranman”.
Other cast includes: Yuki Yamada as Shiro Mizushima, Munetaka Aoki as Sosaku Tachibana, Hidetaka Yoshioka as Kenji Noda, Sakura Ando as Sumiko Ota and Kuranosuke Sasaki as Seiji Akitsu.
This is the first domestic Japanese Godzilla film since Shin Godzilla in 2016.
The film shot on location and on soundstages in Japan from March 2022 – June 2022.
The film is rated PG-13 for “creature violence and action”.
ABOUT THE FILMMAKER
Takashi Yamazaki (Director, Writer, VFX) - Yamazaki is an award-winning director and visual effects supervisor. Known for his blockbusters and innovative visual effects, Yamazaki is considered a leading filmmaker in the Japanese film industry.
Yamazaki developed an interest in filmmaking and visual effects after watching Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He began his career in 1986 and later made his feature film debut with Juvenile in 2000. Yamazaki gained recognition with his third film, Always: Sunset on Third Street in 2005 which won 12 awards at the 29thJapanese Academy Awards. Yamazki has directed several film adaptations of popular anime, novels and manga including The Eternal Zero in 2013 and Stand By Me Doraemon in 2014 - both that went on to earn a total of nine awards at the 38th Japanese Academy Awards. Some of Yamazaki’s other directorial credits include Parasyte (2014), Dragon Quest: Your Story (2019), Lupin III: The First (2019), Stand by Me Doraemon 2 (2020) and Yokaipedia (2022).

At least the movie only runs 70 minutes, though I suppose that extra 10 technically disqualifies it from being a literal amateur hour.
