Fans frothing at the mouth to get a first look at Peacock’s hotly anticipated Twisted Metal TV series had their thirst quenched when the show premiered its first episode a week early during Comic-Con in San Diego. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Twisted Metal is a high-octane action comedy starring the MCU’s Anthony Mackie and Brooklyn 99’s Stephanie Beatriz as Road Warrior-like outlaws running deliveries across a murderous wasteland rife with ruthless renegades and lawless lunatics. Additional cast members include Neve Campbell and Thomas Haden Church with Will Arnett providing the gravelly voice of the demented clown Sweet Tooth. If the first episode is any indication, and the enthusiastic crowd sure seemed to think so, audiences had better buckle up for a truly wild ride of savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction!
Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller hosted the screening, followed by an interactive game that pulled participants out of the audience to test them with Twisted Metal trivia while other attendees scored special giveaways at the event. Everyone else won’t have too long to wait to enjoy the comedic carnage of the tongue-in-cheek show, however, as Peacock will stream all 10 half-hour episodes of the first season on July 27th.
That’s not all though. Not even close. Sweet Tooth himself showed up with his trademark ice cream truck to help folks beat the summer heat with cool servings of Salt + Straw’s limited edition Twisted Metal flavor. It was a tough ticket to get, but not to worry. Sweet Tooth is taking his show on the road with stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Des Moines, and Chicago to keep slinging ice cold deliciousness across the country. Keep your eyes on @SPTV via Instagram for updates on exact times and locations.
While Sweet Tooth kept things cool, R&B superstar Sisqo turned up the heat with a musical performance that started with a Y2K drumline and culminated in the singer’s surprise appearance. Of course, Sisqo burned up the stage with his infectious ear worm “Thong Song” along with a medley of more hits from his chart-topping catalog. Action, ice cream, and dancing in the streets? That might be Twisted Metal, but that’s also three things that make San Diego Comic-Con the ultimate pop culture destination every July!
At least the movie only runs 70 minutes, though I suppose that extra 10 technically disqualifies it from being a literal amateur hour.
