San Diego Comic-Con 2023 is back in a big way and so is AMC. Wednesday’s Preview Night kicked off this year’s fully stuffed slate of fun and frights with a special preview of the hotly anticipated Anne Rice Immortal Universe fan experience. Based on AMC Networks’ smash-hit series “Interview with the Vampire” and “The Mayfair Witches,” the activation has totally transformed the Hilton Gaslamp Terrace into “The Street of Immortality.” The location might be right next to Lou & Mickey’s, but it transports attendees right into the heart of New Orleans where everyone can interact with vampires and witches while strolling through such iconic locations such as Hotel Iberville and Nawlins Records.
Naturally, no SDCC activation would be complete without some sweet swag. Immortal Universe literally has something sweet in store as guests get to sink their fangs into sugary treats and toss back an “Elixir of Immortality” mocktail courtesy of POM Wonderful during live performances from magicians, musicians, and various street performers. Eerie entertainment is everywhere and there are secrets to discover if you you know where to look in the shadows! There’s so much to do and to see packed into the place, ensuring a great time that lasts a lot longer than many of these things usually do.
No one goes home empty handed either. The “La Memoire set un Monstre” poster pictured here, which is a faux promo from within the world’s “Theatre des Vampires,” is just one of several souvenirs to be found within the experience. And that’s to say nothing of the experience itself, which includes numerous photo ops and interactions with actors who make each person feel like they’re part of the show.
The activation is FREE and open to all ages whether they have an SDCC badge or not. But act fast! The sheer scope and immersive detail involved guarantee this might be THE experience everyone talks about during and after the convention as a can’t miss event. AMC’s Immortal Universe is open throughout the weekend, but will not be open Sunday, so make sure you get in there by Saturday. This is one for the books, for sure!
At least the movie only runs 70 minutes, though I suppose that extra 10 technically disqualifies it from being a literal amateur hour.
